Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between change and transformation?
The best way for me to define the difference between transformation and change is to use a metaphor, the story of the Titanic. Regardless of the deck level that people were on, how safe they might have felt at the top, or how beautiful their view of the ocean, that ship was going down. There was nothing anyone could do or say that would change that.
Sure, the ship sailed for a period of time, yet suddenly, its structure became vulnerable to an obstacle in the ocean, the ice-berg. The Titanic was no longer sea-worthy. The fate of the ship and its passengers became inevitable.
Frantic attempts to improve the circumstances of our ‘sinking ship’ are what we do when we push to change the behaviors of ourselves and others. Manipulation and force cannot create our ultimate dreams and desires. For many of us, we spend a good part of our lives ‘climbing to the upper decks’, so to speak. If we are lucky, we might experience some improvement and relief, yet the improvement we achieve is temporary, at best. Our relief turns into frustration, resignation, or despair.
Eventually, our limited, deeply embedded emotional systems and habits, the ones we’ve created in our younger years, will not withstand the inevitable challenges that we’ll come to face later in our lives. These ‘survival’ systems are inadequate to support us in attaining what we currently desire. It is at this point that our ‘breakdowns’ occur.
Our present relationships with success, money, wealth, intimacy, and joy, are currently determined by the ‘ship’ we’ve been sailing on since we were very young. Transforming our old, underlying belief systems into powerful and effective ones, is akin to being transported to a ship that is strong enough to withstand the obstacles of the sea. This is the core work we must do in order to achieve our goals and realize our dreams. This work cannot be done on our own.
What is meant by ‘Ontological Coaching’?
By definition, Ontology is the study of the nature of being human. To address an individual’s way-of-being is to make their moods and emotions, internal self-talk, and non-verbal body movements a primary focus and concern. Ontological Coaching accesses and utilizes the power and intelligence that comes from 1.) being aware of the subconscious aspects of self 2.) aligning one’s body, mind, and, emotions with their conscious intentions and desires. The alignment of a person’s conscious and subconscious mind unleashes the authentic power that changes their behaviors and produces their ultimate desires and outcomes.
The transformation that is needed in order to change an individual’s way-of-being occurs within the framework of powerful coaching conversations. These conversations directly impact this dynamic ‘system of being’. Coaching, at this level, profoundly changes one’s fundamental capacity for new learning. This, in turn, expedites the behavioral change that best produces the desired outcomes in all areas of life. This is growth-generated change, not force-induced change.
The culture of businesses and organizations are transformed into ‘learning and trusting’ environments, as a result of the deeper perceptual and emotional shifts that owners, leaders, and managers make. Ontological Coaching provides for the transformation that is needed to create trusting, respectful, and collaborative relationships in the workplace. Only from this rich place can people in business truly be ‘of service’ to others. The results of Ontological Coaching create wealth attraction and directly affect the bottom line!
